MOTION Dick Hopkins / Marcel Pinette 'that the Financial report be adopted as read ' carried REGIONAL REPORTS NORTH by Earle Gillard -- To stay on the positive side -all clubs are still going. Memberships are starting to climb -with Quesnel getting 5 new members in the last month and 7 juniors participated in the Fall Windup Tournament. Williams Lake has picked up 2 new members, and Prince George has some new members and will hopefully get more with the Western Classic coming in 2005. Fort St.John continues to hang in there. I am planning a trip there next spring to give them some inspiration to work on memberships. Over the summer I have contacted all Clubs and sent information as I have received it. The Junior program has continued to get new members and 2 adult members as a result. Three classrooms sent pupils to have an orientation on Horseshoe pitching. One day there were 40 kids and only enough shoes to give them one each. The parents that brought them took up a collection of $85 for the Junior program. Results for the junior provincial competitions --Zone 1 -the North 1112 points. No results in for zone 4 - Vancouver Island. The Quesnel horseshoe Club would like to host the 2006 BC Championships. The last time was in 1996. The plans for the Prince George Club - new clubhouse and pits , have been given out for bids. Congratulations to Victoria on a superb Canadian Championship. INTERIOR / KOOTENAYS -by Bill Whitnack Duke Proctor -age 105 yrs. hasn't pitched for 2 years. most tournaments did o.k., although Summerlands' turnout was down. Vernon is losing membership - mostly due to age and health. LOWER MAINLAND by Robin DeGraaf MSA -as reported by Syd Anderson --reduced membership this year as members moved to the Chilliwack Club. Central Park -by Scott O'Neil --held 3 tournaments with a good turnout from other clubs. Looking into replacing the roof on the south pits with plexiglass to let in more light. Chilliwack club - by Marcel Pinette -this first year has been easy to sign up members ,but harder to get them to come out. No clubhouse, but have access to the hall. Have 3 juniors signed up. Cloverdale -by Cheryl DeGraaf - has 26 members and 3 juniors . The west parking lot is finished. Pig roast was a success again this year, serving 125 meals with a lot of non-members attending. Elyse Brunelle organized walking doubles after the dinner. Had 40 entered -each team had a member teamed with a non-member, and all had fun. Had 3 tournaments this year with good attendance. Also co-hosted the BC International with Abbotsford. It was a good tournament.Hats off to MSA for their good work and especially to Darryl Olson for his dedication and hard work during this tournament. Maple Ridge - by Bruno Shelest --The Parks board has put in drainage around their pit area and are still talking about putting in a sheltered area. ISLAND / POWELL RIVER by Fred Ormiston Region consists of 6 clubs . Comox Valley has 20 members , Ladysmith - 13 , Nanaimo - 14 , Port Alberni Dry Creek -29 , Powell River - 46 , Victoria - 179 , for a total of 301 members. That is almost half of the Provincial membership. Each club hosted at least one sanctioned tournament this year all successful and well attended. It seems that the clubs try and out-do each other as to who can put on the best meals. This year Port Alberni did a pig roast and Salmon BBQ. Powell River did a roast beef buffet at no charge. Its worth going to the tournaments just for the meals. The Regional championships were held in Cumberland. Womens' champ is Brenda Arnold ; mens ' champ is Tony Rondow. Next year Port Alberni will be the host. Ladysmith Club is re-doing the roofs of their courts. They will be hosting the Horseshoe pitching venue at the 2005 Senior games, and plan to bid for the 2006 BC Championships. Port Alberni Dry Creek -is adding some new courts and plan to cover some of the existing courts. Some of the material has been donated. The other Port Alberni club is to be removed from the web site, as it is no longer a Club. The Victoria club has had a successful year. The membership increased by at least 16. A lot of the credit goes to Dorothy Butts and her committee for the membership and club awareness program. They also added a 640 sq.ft. addition to the Clubhouse and it was ready for the Canadian Championships. The Victoria club did a great job in hosting the Canadian , with over 200 entries including juniors. All provinces were represented except PEI. The week long event went like clockwork. All members should be commended for the way the tournament was run. On behalf of the BCHA , I wish to congratulate the Victoria Club for a job well done. Canadian was good , but would have been nice to have more BC participants. The newsletter has been a disappointment on my behalf. I have asked for volunteers to take over this job, but no one has come forward,so I will try to do what I can. However , I do need more input from the Clubs. Thanks to Bill Whitnack , Chester Szostak , and Vince Herkel in particular ,for getting results to me quickly. The web-site continues to grow. Pictures have been sent in from almost every club. Thanks. I thank the Executive for their hard work and dedication to the job. Denis Kirichenko has been appointed supply officer. Re - the BC International and the BC Championships --the BCHA as co-host , has the right [if that is the correct word ] to have a raffle and 50 /50 draw. This year we have asked out of courtesy , so in future years, this will be accepted. The BCHA puts a lot of money into these two tournaments and need the funds to do so. -- crests , plaques , engraving , rental of the host club facilities, etc. I would like to see more clubs bid on the International and the BC Championships. If this was an 'ideal' world ,each of our 653 members would donate a dollar or more in 'Canadian tire money '. However ,this is the real world ,and the BCHA will take whatever amount you the membership will donate. Ask friends and family to donate also. At this tournament I will have a donation jar out. And in 2005 ,when your club sends in your memberships, make sure to send us your 'Canadian Tire money'. The 2 raffles held so far -most of the prizes have been donated by the Executive.
