B.C. HORSESHOE ASSOC. EXECUTIVE MEETING FEBRUARY 17,2001 ACCENT INNS,BURNABY. Executive present: President -Sam Tomasevic Regional Reps : Secretary- Annie Rayner Island - Fred Ormiston Treasurer - Dick Hopkins Lower Mainland - Robin Degraaf Past President - Dorothy Butts Interior / Kootenays - Ernie Connolly The meeting was called to order at 9:40 a.m. Additions to the agenda under new business-- -signing officers -Letter to clubs The minutes of the AGM - Sept.2000 were read. MOTION DICK HOPKINS / ROBIN DEGRAAF 'that the minutes be adopted as read ' Carried. BUSINESS FROM THE MINUTES- --BY DOROTHY --the wording of some of the minutes was changed to what the Society Act would accept -- to Register the changes to our Constitution. We are required to rescind the by-laws and that they then be replaced by the new ones. MOTION FRED ORMISTON / DOROTHY BUTTS. Carried. CORRESPONDENCE A letter was read from Munj Manhas re-paying judges and wearing whites. Referred to new business. FINANCIAL REPORT by Dick Hopkins MOTION DICK HOPKINS / DOROTHY BUTTS 'that the financial statement be adopted as read ' Carried. Dick presented the proposed budget for 2001. MOTION DICK HOPKINS / FRED ORMISTON 'that it be accepted' Carried. A Gaming grant application was sent in by Dick in October 2000. It was suggested by Fred that the Executive have more in-put into the application,and it will be discussed again at the May meeting. Dick presented a hand out on Info re- our insurance , to be enclosed with these minutes. DISBURSEMENT OF RAFFLE PROCEEDS -from 2000 ---$ 1000.00 MOTION DICK HOPKINS / DOROTHY BUTTS 'that the funds be disbursed as follows -- --45 % to prizes at the B.C.Championships --$ 450.00 --25 % to prizes at the B.C.International -----$ 250.00 --20 % to the Travel Fund ----------------------$ 200.00 --10 % to the Junior Fund ----------------------$ 100.00 TOTAL-------$ 1000.00 ---- Carried. REGIONAL REPORTS ISLAND by Fred Ormiston --Victoria is always active with darts, Crib,poker, parties at Christmas and New Years. A curling bonspiel with 64 people and they had free ice; Spring leaque starts Feb.18; A golf tourney is lined up for April ; and a trip to Reno in October. Dorothy Butts did a demo at the Canwest Mall -set up a pitch and lots of info. It seemed to be well accepted and a lot of people stopped by and tried 'pitching a shoe or two' Dorothy Butts is the new President of the Victoria Club. Their club newsletter is the 'LampPost' Bellingham tournament is August 18,2001 -only one day Most of the other clubs are dormant now. NORTH -no report as Louis Levesque was not in attendance. INTERIOR / KOOTENAYS By Ernie Connolly Barriere Club is a 'go' this year. Vernon Clubhouse was broke into and paint spilt on the floor and spray paint on fixtures,trophies,etc. Quite a mess. Wilf Alexander broke his hip. Winfield - Doug Wilton may have had a heart attack. Summerland - Floyd Lewis had an operation on his eye. Kamloops has a new retaining wall and some new lights. Golden and Salmon Arm-all well there,and the Nicola Valley gang are down south. LOWER MAINLAND by Robin Degraaf A meeting was held and Cheryl Degraaf is now assistant rep. They are going to enforce an 8:30 a.m. cut-off for registrations for tournaments. Abbotsford has some new pins. All clubs are working on a 'new membership' drive. Cloverdale is planning some expansion / renovations. North Shore has a new executive. White Rock is getting some more interest in memberships . Steve White had a muscle tear in his arm. Ken Gotto passed away. Ray Amos is not well. COMMITTEE REPORTS HALL OF FAME - Fred Ormiston -no one has submitted anyone for this years category of Male player. -still working on a 'form' and criteria , etc. CONSTITUTION - by Dorothy Butts --the 'new' constitution / by-laws is now duly registered. --cost for printing these in booklet form are --$ 446.00 plus tax for 600 books. --Price for 'official ' rules booklets is $ 350.00 plus tax for 600 books MOTION FRED ORMISTON / ERNIE CONNOLLY 'that if we get a casino grant this year, then we order the above booklets.' Carried. Dorothy also mentioned that each club should write to their MP re-casino funds stating that the grant money that BCHA gets is only for BCHA expenses, NOT for individual clubs. SUPPLIES by Sam as Vince Herkel was unable to attend [funeral] Our condolances. --there are sufficient supplies including 30 pair of M & M horseshoes, except for score sheets. MOTION DOROTHY BUTTS / DICK HOPKINS 'that score sheets be ordered.' Carried. Dorothy will order. RAFFLE--- Ageed that --we have the same format as the past two years. Dick will get the licence Fred will see to the printing. Same price and same prizes as last year.[ $400,$300,$200,$100] Distibution to be thru the Regional Reps. SENIOR GAMES--will be in Surrey August 22- 25,2001, with the Horseshoes in Cloverdale.Robin stated that he is waiting for a meeting with the Games Office,but that things should all work out. CANADIAN --Wellesley , Ontario.Entry form to go out with the minutes. WORLD --entry form with the minutes. B.C. INTERNATIONAL --entry form with the minutes. AIR MILES -total of 1460 as of February 2001. PRESIDENTS REPORT --Sam Tomasevic --Website is doing well. --need pictures for the web ,etc. MOTION SAM TOMASEVIC / DOROTHY BUTTS 'That we add another requirement to the applications for hosting the B.C.International and B.C.Championships ---That someone from the host club be available to take photos at these tournaments,and the BCHA will pay for the film and the development.' Carried. --the yearbook will be out at $10.00 --Andre Leclares' book--The History of Horseshoes -is available to order. BIDS FOR THE 2002 B.C.INTERNATIONAL Bids received from Victoria and Penticton. Vote by secret ballot with Penticton the successful bidder. BIDS FOR THE 2002 B.C.CHAMPIONSHIPS Bids received from Winfield and Cloverdale. Vote by secret ballot with Cloverdale the successful bidder. OLD BUSINESS --Dick will be sending out the billings to all clubs the end of March . --MOTION DOROTHY BUTTS / FRED ORMISTON 'that the BCHA allocate $ 300.00 this year to the travel fund for assistance to our 'A' champs --if they apply-- for travel to the Canadian or to the World' Carried. NEW BUSINESS --Can Flip shoes --Fred Ormiston stated that the mold and some shoes were donated by Edna Butts. Does the BCHA want to handle these ?? MOTION FRED ORMISTON / ROBIN DEGRAAF 'that the BCHA order 25 pair to start with, and sell at an introductory price of $30.00' Carried. --Measuring tool ---Sam Tomasevic these are $ 4.65 each in lots of 100 and sell for $ 10.00.Tabled to next meeting. --Pins with the new logo---cost $1.75 each per 500. Sell at $ 3.00. MOTION DOROTHY BUTTS / ERNIE CONNOLLY 'that we order 500 pins' Carried. --MOTION DOROTHY BUTTS / FRED ORMISTON 'that Judges at the B.C.INTERNATIONAL and the B.C.CHAMPIONSHIPS be paid $ 4.00 per shift by the BCHA' Carried. --Wearing of whites--Sam appointed Dorothy Butts to be the 'enforcer ' of this rule . --MOTION DICK HOPKINS / FRED ORMISTON 'that the signing officers be changed to Sam Tomasevic, Dick Hopkins,and Robin Degraaf.' Carried. --Annie read an information letter that will go to all clubs in March. --Re-an Auditor -- Dick and Sam will try and find two people who would be able to do this. GOOD AND WELFARE --Ernie Connolly mentioned that the Vernon Club is in financial difficulties as they had no Insurance coverage and the damage to their Clubhouse was extensive. He asked for ideas as to helping them. --in addition to the people mentioned in the reports Bernice Busch has a broken ankle. Carol Ormiston has two broken toes. Cliff Dalsin had a heart attack.
