BC HORSESHOE ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE MEETING BURNABY, CENTRAL PARK, B.C. FEBRUARY 23, 2003 Present: President - Vince Herkel Vice President- Syd Anderson Past President - Sam Tomasevic Regional Reps: Ernie Connolly Robin Degraaf Earle Gillard Fred Ormiston Recording Secretary: Wendy Tomasevic The meeting was called to order by the President at 10:05am. MOTION Ernie Connolly/Earle Gillard "that Wendy Tomasevic be appointed the recording secretary for the meeting" Vote taken. Passed, Carried. The President called a moment of silence for those that had passed away. MINUTES MOTION Sam Tomasevic/Ernie Connolly that the minutes of the May 2002 executive meeting be adopted as they stand. Vote taken, Carried. BUSINESS FROM MINUTES In the May 2002 executive minutes Dick Hopkins had submitted a letter of resignation to be effective as of the 2002 AGM but stood for another year. Vince Herkel has received a letter from Dick stating that this will definitely be his last year as treasurer for the association. BUSINESS FROM 2002 AGM Sam will contact Andre Leclerc regarding the survey that Horseshoe Canada did to see if it is to late to send in results to be counted. CORRESPONDENCE As the 2002 Sr. Games dates conflicted with the B.C. Championships a letter was sent to see if the dates of the games could be changed. A letter was received from the games board stating that the dates cannot be changed for one sport and the dates the games are held differ depending on the venue they are being held in. FINANCIAL REPORT Vince Herkel gave the financial report in Dick Hopkin's absence. MOTION Earle Gillard/Syd Anderson that the report be accepted as read. Vote taken, Carried. The insurance fees for each club will be increased to $100 for 2003 to cover the increase in the policy. GAMING GRANT - Was applied for in October 2002 for the amount of $10,100. As of February,2003 ,there is no indication as to what was approved, if anything. RAFFLE DISBURSEMENT A net amount of $2,365.00 was raised from the 2002 raffle with the disbursement as follows: B. C. Championships (40%) $ 946 B.C. International (25%) 591 Travel (20%) 473 Administration (20%) 237 Juniors (5%) 118 ______ $ 2,365 ====== MOTION Sam Tomasevic/Robin Degraaf that the payout be accepted. Vote taken, Carried. RAFFLE 2003 MOTION Ernie Connolly/ Earle Gillard that the Association continue with the raffle for 2003 in the same format. Vote taken, carried. Dick Hopkins will get a license number and the Association will contact Dave Arnold to print the tickets. AUDIT A letter was read from Denis Kirichenko of Abbotsford that he had finished the audit on the financial records for the period ending August 31, 2002 and that everything was in order. The secretary to send a letter to Denis thanking him for his time and effort. REGIONAL REPORTS ISLAND - Fred Ormiston Victoria has set up committee's for the 2004 Canadian and will be posting all information on their club website. Dates are July 14-18, 2004 to be confirmed. They hope to have $15,000 raised for added prize money and a total of $30,000 to cover all expenses. They have already raised approximately $12,000. They have started their spring league and have about 40 members coming out. Victoria will be either adding on to the clubhouse or covering another 4 courts before the Canadians. The Victoria club will be adding $1,000 to the 2003 B.C. Championships for added prize money. The Nanaimo club meets every Sunday afternoon for practice. Dry Creek (Port Alberni) reports that the RV Park has closed and the club has acquired the managers building for a clubhouse and also the washroom facilities. NORTH - Earle Gillard Clubs have not started up yet for the season but should be doing so shortly. There has been interest in McKenzie and Vanderhoof to form clubs. Earle will be assisting Williams Lake in reorganizing its club and get it fully up and running again. Quesnel will be doing a membership drive this year. Prince George will be moving from its current location to a new site later this season. INTERIOR - Ernie Connolly Ernie reported that the clubs would be getting active in March. Bill and Vera Whitnack will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this coming May. Ted Peters is the new President of the Salmon Arm club. LOWER MAINLAND - Robin Degraaf MSA has covered a portion of their courts. The clubs have not started up yet for the season. Cloverdale's Last Chance tournament will be 1 day only on the 23rd with a BBQ on the Saturday night. COMMITTEE REPORTS HALL OF FAME - The category this year is organizer/Promoter. Nominations to be sent to Fred Ormiston. CANADA HALL OF FAME - The category this year is Male player. SUPPLIES - Syd Anderson stated that he would need to order more scoresheets for the season. MOTION Syd Anderson/Earle Gillard that 30 pairs of M & M Horseshoes be ordered. Vote taken, carried. MOTION Syd Anderson/Earle Gillard that 25 pairs of Can Flip Horseshoes be ordered. Vote taken, carried. SENIOR GAMES - The 2003 games will be held in Chilliwack. AIR MILES - There are 3,482 air miles. NEWSLETTER - Sam Tomasevic stated that subscriptions are slowly coming in. He also stated that he needs more articles to be sent to him from individuals and from clubs. WEBSITE - The site is still up and running with great response from members of the province and others. PRESIDENT'S REPORT Vince Herkel has donated a computer system for the MSA club and will also donate one to Cloverdale. He will also contact the Boys and Girls club in Ladysmith to see if they are interested in joining the junior program. Vince thought it would be a good idea to see if he can find a sponsor so that the association can promote horseshoes in the media throughout the province. 2004 INTERNATIONAL No bids were received. 2004 B.C. CHAMPIONSHIPS The successful bidder was the Winfield Horseshoe Club. NEW BUSINESS WESTERN CLASSIC - It was B.C.'s turn to host this event in 2004 but no bids were received. (We were later informed that Calgary would host it in the fall of 2004). GOOD AND WELFARE The Ladysmith clubhouse was vandalized. The following members have passed away: Marg Simila--Ladysmith Cecil Griese - Golden Bill Lang - Victoria Walter Park - Central Park Ray Amos - Cloverdale Bill Prior (Victoria) has been inducted into the Victoria Sports Hall of Fame in the sport of Baseball. OPEN FLOOR It was noted that there has been complaints about players using altered shoes in tournaments. EXECUTIVE MEETING The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday May 18th at 7pm at the Winfield Horseshoe Club. MOTION Fred Ormiston/Earle Gillard that the meeting be adjourned. Vote taken, carried.
