BC HORSESHOE ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE MEETING DATE: February 26, 2006 at Cloverdale Horseshoe Club Present: Sam Tomasevic, Fred Ormiston, Marcel Pinette, Dorothy Krimmer, Robin De Graaf and Cheryl DeGraaf 1. Call meeting to order: 9:35 a.m. 2. Amendments to the agenda: Add the Victoria Club in "Bids for the 2007 BC Championships" 3. Minutes -AGM: Cheryl DeGraaf read the minutes. * Fred Ormiston motioned "Minutes accepted as read" * Marcel Pinette seconded * Carried 4. Business from the minutes: None 5. Business from the AGM: None 6. Business from the Horseshoe Canada AGM: Nothing much happened. 7. Correspondence: Letter from Annie Raynor resinging due to health reasons. 8. Financial Report _ Dorothy Krimmer: There were a few different accounts for BC Horseshoes opened and Dorothy Krimmer moved them all to one account. Dorothy ordered cheques for the Gaming account and General Account. She ordered about 2 years worth to get a great price break. a) Proposed Budget: Dorothy handed out a copy of the proposed budget and the financial report * Dorothy motioned "Accepted" * Seconded by Fred Ormiston * Carried c) Raffle 2006: Sam Tomasevic asked if we want to change anything on the raffle. Robin Degraaf said that a couple of pitchers approached him with the complaint that $5 a ticket is too much. A discussion followed and because the license is a class B we are only allowed to have so many printed up and wouldn't make enough if the price was lowered. Fred reminded everyone that when you sell 4 tickets the 5th one is free and can be used towards teams. d) Raffle proceeds: Are as Follows.....45% BC Champs 25% Interantionals 20% Travel Fund 5% Juniors 5% Administration 9. Regional Reports: a) North Earle Gillard: (Due to snow conditions Earle Gillard was not able to attend but did send down a report. b) Lower Mainland - Robin Degraaf: Robin reported that none of the clubs had held a meeting yet. Cloverdale is still having Monday nights Games Nights, Tuesday night Poker and Thursday night Cribbage. Jeanne Williams from Cloverdale Passed away and Mike Miller from Central Park passed away and his funeral was well attended. c) Island - Fred Ormiston: The Internationals are on Victoria this year. Victoria Club doing fine. Playing Darts, Crib and had a Texas Holdem Poker night with about 30 people out for it. Will be having a "Newfie" night on March 25/06 The cost for President Shoes is going up. Cost now is $40 Cucumberland is switching Tournament dates and is now May 13 & 14 for Cumberland Empire Days. Vic Bussey Passed away (Long time member). Victoria's spring league has started with about 48 pitchers coming out. Fred Ormiston may not be at the Internationals as he may be in Mexico for a wedding. Fred is still reviewing "Rules of play" We will leave as guidelines for now and work on the rules later. d) Interior / Kootenays - Ernie Connolly: Ernie Connolly was unable to attend due to snow conditions but sent down a letter. 10. Committee Reports: a) Hall of Fame -Fred Ormiston: This year the hall of fame is for Organizer/player and so far only Marcel Pinette's name is on the list. b) Supplies and Jackets - Marcel Pinette: Marcel said supplies are good other than he needs some Round Robin Cards. Fred said it was Dave Arnold that makes them so he gave one to Dorothy Krimmer to get to Dave and order 2000. Marcel said we need more game pamphlets. Sam said he had lots and would get some to Marcel. Marcel to pick up about a dozen more Jackets. Marcel will look into seeing if they can get small enough sizes for juniors. Marcel set up a deal with Reps that he would leave supplies with them for the clubs in their areas. Marcel said people asking him about getting hats that reflect the games I.e. 2006 BC Champs in Quesnel BC etc. It was thought that navy would be the best colour to match the jackets. Fred would check into if we could get a company to pay for the hats and in exchange their logo would go on the back of the hats. Marcel will check into pricing of hats. c) Senior games: We are still involved with the senior games committee this year. Same agreement as last year Sam signed and mailed them an invoice for the $100.The senior games committee said that having BC Horseshoes run the tournaments for seniors was the best thing they ever did. d) Tournament Schedule 2006: Done and Cumberland land Empire Days tournament has been changed and is reflected on the new schedule. Sam announced that North Shore Club is officially closed. e) Canadian Tournament 2006: Is being held at Manitou Beach, Saskatchewan f) World Tournament 2006: Is being held at Gillette Wyoming USA g) Air Miles Program - Sam Tomasevic: Sam handed out a copy of the air miles. We have 3480 Air Miles. WE will get catalogue and go over at next meeting to see what we are eligible for and maybe use it as raffle gifts. IT was mentioned again about fund raising via Mohawk and Husky. use your mileage with BCAA members and it comes back to your club. h) Newsletter - Sam Tomasevic: Work in progress I) Website - Sam Tomasevic: Nothing new to add. Website gets lots of compliments. j) BC International - Sam Tomasevic: Victoria says the vacant field beside them is being developed for housing and they will try to get a piece of the land that has the dirt pile on it to compensate for the lost of parking. k) BC Championships - Sam Tomasevic: Nothing new to report 12. BC International - July 2007 MSA The MSA club will host the 2007 and 2008 BC Internationals in tandem with the Highwayman Tournament 13. Bids for the 2007 BC Championships - Three (3) clubs bid for the 2007 BC Championships. Cloverdale who last had it in 2002, Victoria who last had it in 2003 and Winfield who last had it in 2004. Discussion happened about that it would try and alternate between the north and the sound and then the island so not always in the same areas. Ballots were handed out for the vote and passed back. Ballots were counted and Cloverdale is the host for the 2007 BC Championships. * Dorothy motioned ballots be destroyed * Seconded by Marcel 14. Old Business: No old business 15. New Business: Read the letter from Tony Rondow It was decided that if Tony wanted to run it he could do it but the stipulation should be that the pitchers couldn't use their own shoes. Travel Money for 2006: members approached Fred on how much they received. No one steps up to the plate to run so shouldn't complain. Fred motioned that we keep it the same as always. Seconded by Dorothy -Carried Duties of executive for the international and BC Championships: Sam will have a schedule of who is responsible for what. It's a work in progress right now. Chinese Auction: The executive will bring twp (2) gifts each for the auction. 16. Good And Welfare: The following is members that have passed away: Mike Miller from Central Park Jeanne Williams from Cloverdale Bob Connor from MSA Duke Proctor and Bill Whitnack from Vernon 17. Open Floor Discussion: Cheryl Degraaf to look into getting on their one month Canadian unwanted money donation bin. Cheryl asked why each club could not have 2 judges kit that would have a set of calibers in it and rules etc. Sam to look into it. IT was decided that the % pins will be handed out only once a year at the BC Championships and for those who are not in attendance they will be give to the reps for that area who would in turn dispense them to the club presidents who will give them to heir club members. 18. Next Meeting: Fred Ormiston to set up a meeting for Friday at 1 p.m. at Internationals. 19. Adjournment: 11.59 a.m.
