A moment of silence was held for all those who have passed away. There were no amendments to the agenda. MOTION Fred Ormiston /Sam Tomasevic 'That the minutes of the last Executive meeting-May 18,2001, be adopted,' Carried. No business from the minutes. MOTION Sam Tomasevic / Fred Ormiston 'That there is no business from the Annual General meeting of August 31.2001 ' carried There was no business from the Horseshoe Canada AGM --2001 CORRESPONDENCE a letter dated Dec.3,2001, was read from Don Griffith of Calgary stating that the Western Classic would remain as is until their meeting in July. an e-mail dated Jan.10,2002,was read from Jack Blom of Armstrong asking about forming a Club, Clubs in his area, fees, etc. and the information was passed to Ernie Connolly.--Interior Rep. a letter was read from Jerry Melissa of Ladysmith regarding the organization of classes at the 2001 BC Championships, and the collecting of the additional fees for the A and B classes. ***It was noted that the A and B players were the originators of this and it was passed by the BCHA. Sam Tomasevic will reply to Jerry. a copy of the letter that Victoria had sent to Horseshoe Canada bidding for the Canadian in 2004. MOTION Sam Tomasevic / Syd Anderson 'That the BC Horseshoe Association extend their approval of this bid ' Carried a letter was read from Rick Herkel of Port Alberni --applying for membership in the BCHA as the Dry Creek Horseshoe club. A reply will be sent to him stating that their Club is the established Club in Port Alberni. Their acceptance into the BCHA , as a club ,is / was based on the location of the Horseshoe Courts. FINANCIAL REPORT --was given by Dick Hopkins. MOTION Dick Hopkins / Earle Gillard 'that the financial report be adopted as given' Carried Dick presented his proposed budget for the year ending August 31,2002. MOTION Dick Hopkins / Earle Gillard 'That this be accepted' Carried Dick presented the Gaming Grant application that he had sent in. BC International added money 25% = 525. Travel Fund 20 % = 420. Administration 10 % = 210. Junior Fund 5 % = 105. TOTAL 100 % = $ 2,100. 'Carried'. Per night, for a maximum of 2 nights 'Carried' REGIONAL REPORTS ISLAND --Fred Ormiston reported that --Victoria has applied for the 2004 Canadian. All Donations will go to prize money. Victoria has had a promotion at the mall, which got them 8 or 10 new people in their Spring league. They have 24 teams / 48 people participating in their Spring league. An Open house is planned for March 23 at the Club. They have card nights, Curling, golf planned for April, Wednesday is Seniors day,--lots of activity. Elaine Rush is the Tournament director and will be asking players to show their BCHA membership cards at tournaments. Other Clubs are pretty quiet yet. Ladysmith had the bank wash out from above, covering their courts, but that is being cleaned up. NORTH --Earle Gillard --It is still winter in the north, so not much happening. There is a probability of a Club in McKenzie. INTERIOR / KOOTENAYS --Ernie Connolly said that things are quiet there yet . Penticton is busy getting things organized for the International in May. They may have some Juniors - from the school -come and play in the International and needed some guidelines / rules. LOWER MAINLAND --Robin Degraaf reported on-- Maple Ridge [from Bruno ] [a] feels that there is a lack of communication regarding the BCHA constitution, and to much relying on the Internet [b] they would like tournaments to use a handicap system for any class over a 10 % spread. [c] their membership is down by one with the passing of Don Reed. [d] Central Park [from Mike Miller ]--will be wearing new shirts this year. They have had some people show an interest in the Club, but no new members as yet. [e] Cloverdale [from Norm Lebrun] --have changed their August 25th tournament to September 29,due to the BC Championships. The Thursday night Crib has been successful. Done some renovations to the Clubhouse, and plan to cover the last 10 pits. Have some new members. [f] North Shore [from Bob Fedoruk] --Membership has dropped so they will put ads in the paper and seek support from the local Legion. Sue Bertrand is their new Secretary. [g] Abbotsford [from Syd Anderson] --had meat draws at the Pub over the winter and raised $ 100. every Saturday. They are hoping to have a new sponsor for their May tournament. They are re-scheduling the Lower Mainland Championships to September 8. Looking to have only three Tournaments per year instead of four. [h] White Rock [from Lindsey Matthews] --they have played all winter weather permitting. Have had trouble with their sand being dirty, so the City is supplying them with new sand. They have had high school kids and people from local business come out and try pitching. COMMITTEE REPORTS -- HALL OF FAME-Victoria is going to nominate Bernice Busch to both the BC and Canadian Hall of Fame. SUPPLIES -Syd Anderson -Nothing has changed since the AGM. Jackets --The BCHA will be getting new jackets--Navy Blue with an 8 inch sewn on crest of the BCHA logo. Snap closing, lined. Cost to the BCHA about $32. SENIOR GAMES --Earle Gillard -stated that the Prince George Horseshoe Club is in charge of the Horseshoes, and should have no problems. Dates are August 28 - 31,2002. 2002-SCHEDULE -Sam Tomasevic said that after several re-visions the schedule will be out with these minutes. As will the entry forms for the Canadian, the World, and the International. Sam has one entry for the International already. AIR MILES -by Sam Tomasevic--we have 2,245 NEWSLETTERS --Sam Tomasevic-- have 90 re-renewals at this point. WEBSITE --by Sam --Looking into more space and cost. North Shore has no website. There is a site at and LOTTERY APPLICATIONS -Vince Herkel - Individual Clubs are allowed to apply on their own --to a limit of $10,000, BECAUSE --the BCHA does not fund the Clubs. PRESIDENTS REPORT --Vince Herkel All is going well and not much to say this time. Our future is with juniors, need more programs. We need more recognition of Horseshoes as a competitive sport with Sports BC. BIDS FOR THE 2003 B.C.INTERNATIONAL -- Winfield and Victoria One vote taken --with Winfield the successful bidder. BIDS FOR THE 2003 B.C.CHAMPIONSHIPS --Winfield and Victoria One vote taken --with Victoria the successful bidder. OLD BUSINESS--none. NEW BUSINESS -- 1.--Earle Gillard spoke on ideas for Junior development [a] One idea is a stay at home tournament under supervision of Club members. [b] team tournament against other clubs [c] other contacts besides schools are --Boys and Girls Club, Scouts / Guides, local Recreation Centre. 2.--Syd Anderson read letters from the Maple Ridge and the MSA Horseshoe Clubs wanting to use a handicap system at tournaments, where the spread is more than 10 or 12 %. Discussion followed. Sam Tomasevic stated that only one handicap system is compatible to the Canstats program. Using any other would make it an unsanctioned tournament. Also --it must be advertised as handicapped. Maple Ridge also stated that they thought there may be to many Tournaments in the season, but could offer no solution. 3. Travel money --is available for the Ladies, Men's and Senior Men A Champs, to go to the Canadian. The Secretary to write to the current Champs. A letter has been received already from Walter Kinakin -Mens A Champ, stating that he will be attending this year's Canadian. GOOD AND WELFARE -- Deaths -- Bernice Busch of Nanaimo -- Steve Marin of Winfield --Jan.2, 2002 -- Dorothy Blunt, Jan.19,2002, age 90 years Wilf Donald of Alberta has had part of a lung removed and doing o.k. Jim Ball is recovering from a bad knee. Dennis Mustchin is up and mobile. Pat Richards of Winfied is home after a hospital stay. Annie Rayner is doing o.k. after an auto accident Nov.18. Thanks for all the get-well wishes. OPEN FLOOR DISCUSSION-- 1] Horseshoe Canada donated money to the World Tournament in Red Deer. 2] MOTION Fred Ormiston / Robin Degraaf " That another 100 percentage pins be ordered ' Carried 3] It was brought up about some Clubs having 2 sets of memberships. Those that play and those that don't. There should be only ONE membership fee for your Club, and from that you send the required amount to the BCHA. If an individual is not a BCHA member then they are not included in the BCHA Insurance. Also, you should not be holding an 'office' in your Club.
