B C HORSESHOE ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE MEETING ABBOTSFORD HORSESHOE CLUB MAY 21 , 2004 The meeting was called to order at 1:45 p.m. by the President. Attending were Sam Tomasevic- President Annie Rayner - Secretary Dick Hopkins --Treasurer Regional Reps -Ernie Connolly Earle Gillard Fred Ormiston Robin Degraaf Minutes of the previous Executive meeting -Feb./ 04 -were read. Motion Fred Ormiston / Ernie Connolly 'that the minutes be adopted as read' carried with one correction under Good and Welfare --Mrs. Kay [ Al ] Reifer did not pass away -- our apologies. CORRESPONDENCE - Letters were sent to Winfield and Penticton -re : their successful bids for 2005 International and BC Championships. Letters were sent to Abbotsford / MSA and Winfield asking permission for the BCHA to hold a Prize draw at the International and the BC Championships. An affirmative reply was received from MSA. Notice received from Syd Anderson that he is resigning as vice-president and supplies officer -due to work commitments. The vice-presidents position tabled til the AGM. Supplies -the Regional Reps will take what they want for now . FINANCIAL REPORT --Dick Hopkins Insurance for 2004 was $2600. There are 6 clubs which have not paid yet. Armstrong ,Summerland, Comox Valley, Prince George, White Rock. Motion - Dick Hopkins / Earle Gillard 'that the financial report be adopted as read ' carried. Gaming Grant -was sent in by March 31,2004. Came back 'rejected' Dick had been given the wrong form at the Government office. He has re-submitted on the correct form. The BCHA will not hear anything until the end of August. Only 2 1/2 % of applications will be given a grant. REGIONAL REPORTS North by Earle Gillard--Clubs in this area are having a difficult time maintaining or increasing memberships. Quesnel 's opening Tournament went well even though entries were down. I held a meeting with representatives from Quesnel , Williams Lake and Prince George clubs. No complaints. Discussed dress code -Williams Lake said leave as is.Prince George and Quesnel split on possible change. Fort St.John is a Club for 2004. Stan Ostash in McKenzie can't get a club going -not enough interest. Prince George and Quesnel are both interested in bidding for the 2005 Western Classic. Bonnie Herrett of Williams Lake suggested that the BCHA add $1.00 to membership fees to bolster the financial pot. The Quesnel Club gave Tal Severson a plaque and Honorary life membership. [Tal is doing o.k. --uses a cane and a scooter ] INTERIOR - by Ernie Connolly Salmon Arm held a tournament May 1 , with 42 entries. Tournament directors were Doug Wilton and Bill Whitnack. Pentictons tournaments May 15 and 16, had 45 entries on Sat. and 34 on Sunday.Tournament director was Bud Perry. May 30 is the Senior Games try-outs in Kamloops. Kamloops tournament is May 29 and 30. the City of Kamloops is talking of charging for parking at the Club , and maybe no overnight parking. This will greatly affect their tournaments. LOWER MAINLAND --by Robin Degraaf MSA has lost some membership to the new Chilliwack Club. MSA is still associated with the Highwaymans Pub- and thinking of changing their meat draws from Friday to Saturday. Maple Ridge has a new Parks guy and he is working better with their Club. Chilliwack practices Tuesday and Thursday evenings -advertising in the paper.. The local paper has taken photos . White Rock has quite a few Juniors coming out. Central Park has 2 new members and their first tournament went well. Cloverdale has 2 new members and 3 Juniors / PeeWees. Robin is interim President as Bill Jones-Evans resigned due to health reasons. There is still lots of problems with the clubs' land extension, and they are working with the City to rectify matters. ISLAND / POWELL RIVER -by Fred Ormiston Victoria-has close to 170 members and 22 juniors this year. Their club addition is finished .Had a 'grand opening' with about 120 people attending, including BCHA president Sam Tomasevic. An Alderman was invited to come and he was quite impressed with the facility. Still working on the grounds, and Saanich will do some of the work,like trim trees and put in new sod. Fund raising is going well with regular Friday night darts,a golf tournament,etc.The Club had a fishing derby. The banquet for the Canadian will be at the Princess Mary Restaurant and there will be a bus shuttle. Lots of entertainment planned. not much new with the other clubs as yet. COMMITTEE REPORTS HALL OF FAME Male player -2 carry overs are Jim Ball and Lloyd Reyklin.Any other nominations must be in as soon as possible. SUPPLIES - lots on hand RAFFLE-2004 --Tickets were distributed to the Regional Reps JUNIORS Not much interest this year. Motion Robin Degraaf / Ernie Connolly that the BCHA adopt a PeeWee division [to throw from 20 ft.] as consistent with using the NHPA standards ' carried PRESIDENTS REPORT -Sam Tomasevic The International has 81 entries --77 adults and 4 juniors. 8 are from Washington. John Hasell is working on a Windows version of the shoes program. The Newsletter will go out shortly. To many work obligations. Canadian entry deadline is June 10th. Entries to Diane Beck tournament director. Prince George requested information and requirements to host the Western Canada Classic in 2005. Phylis Dahl , longtime secretary of the BCHA ,passed away in April ,2004. Her and husband Stan loved horseshoes and promoted it all over the province. OLD BUSINESS Fred Ormiston and Vince Herkel met with George Douglas , the 1st vice-president of the BC Senior Games Society ,to draw up Memorandum of Agreement between the B C Horseshoe Association and the Senior Games Society for the year 2005. This means that the Senior Games will be a Sanctioned tournament, results to go to Canstats,BCHA rules to apply , BCHA officials to ensure proper conduct of the competion , and facilities up to BCHA standards. Motion Dick Hopkins / Earle Gillard 'that the BCHA accept this tenative agreement for 2005 ' carried. Thank you to Fred and Vince for their work on this. Starting at the 2004 BC Championships , entrants will check in 1/2 hour before play, and show their membership card. The dress code -tabled to the Annual General meeting. GOOD AND WELFARE Kamloops -Earle Anderson is recovering from heart attack Frank Kohlman -recovering from double pneumonia Vernon - Wilf Alexander is now home from the hospital Hans Rees has bone cancer. Penticton - Ed Courtepatte is in hospital. Maple Ridge - Les Schneider is improving. Fort St. John - Fred Bodaly is doing better. To all of you --get well soon.
