BC HORSESHOE ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE MEETING DATE: May 19, 2006 BC Internationals Victoria, BC Present: Sam Tomasevic, Dorothy Krimmer, Robin De Graaf, Cheryl DeGraaf, Ernie Connolly, Earle Gillard and John Hamler. 1. Call meeting to order: 1:10 p.m. by President Sam Tomasevic. Sam noted that John Hamler was joining us an observer. 2. Amendments to the agenda: None 3. Minutes -Feb. 26/06: Cheryl DeGraaf read the minutes. * Earle Gillard motioned "Minutes accepted as read" * Robin Degraaf seconded * Carried 4. Business from the minutes: a) Percent Pins ... Sam and Robin getting to the bottom of it and will have everything sorted out soon. b) Canadian Tire Money .... Cheryl checked into getting BC Horseshoes in the donation bin but Canadian Tire is sponsoring province wide "Focus on the Family." 5. Financial Report _ Dorothy Krimmer: Dorothy handed out a financial report. Cheryl asked about inactive clubs. Where does the money go? Each club is different, some have it in their constitution to give to a specific charity and some put in on hold if the club ever starts up again. Dorothy motioned Financial report be accepted as read. Ernie seconded and carried. 6. Raffle 2006: Dorothy has B-License Numbers to be written on Tickets. Dorothy and Cheryl will distribute tickets to Reps. Dorothy has the control sheet for tickets. 7. Regional Reports: a) North Earle Gillard: Clubs in north are just nicely getting active. Prince George is getting 10-12 out for their Tuesday and Thursday League play. Quesnel held their Tony Magnuson Memorial on May 13/14. Though not a big turnout, it was quite competitive. Lloyd Osborne. is developing into the top 40' player in Quesnel. A newcomer in the ladies division - Helen Boulreau is going to be a strong "B" player by the end of the summer. Richard Marsh and Bob Hogan (PG) are not playing much this year. Fort St. John hasn't had a tournament yet but they are playing their fun nights. Fred Bodaly and Bill Underwood are not playing as yet. Gordon Snyder had a heart attack about 2 months ago but is back playing horseshoes. Dave Plemel is still head honcho of the club. In Williams Lake Bonnie H. and Dennis O'Neill are the only members of the club. Dennis is not well. Bonnie said she's hearing rumors of the Stampede Assoc. moving the Horseshoe club out of the Stampeded Grounds. Wait and see. Quesnel lost one of it's former members, Ted Urquhart to cancer in February. Our membership is about 18. I have been working with wheelchair athletes. Some of them are enjoying it and doing well. I haven't started the Junior program yet. I talked to Monte in Mackenzie and he says they are still trying to get a club going. I compiled all the promotion ideas from Dorothy Butts and sent to the clubs. Let's hope they use these ideas. (I need Thomas's Address in Terrace) I need RR cards and score sheets. Thank you b) Lower Mainland - Robin Degraaf: With the new pitching year here all the lower mainland clubs are gearing up for the coming year. Some clubs have already held their first tournaments. Central Park tournament had a great turnout from the island. Memberships are down so far but it's still early and most clubs expect things to pick up. I will be holding a Lower Mainland Rep meeting in about 2 weeks time. Chiiliwack is hosting the Lower Mainland Championships this year. Cloverdale is already getting calls about the pig roast tournament. c) Island - Fred Ormiston: Dorothy Krimmer did report for Fred Ormiston who was absent. Victoria Club is going strong. 18 men teams and 10 ladies. Juniors started. Last Wednesday night BC Victoria Seniors June 03 slated. Zone 1 can play in Zone 2 no rule you can't. c) Interior / Kootenays - Ernie Connolly: Salmon Arm had a good turnout with 31 entries. Clarence Juell is the new President. Penticton had 37 entries and Bud Perry was the tournament director. Lost 2 members (Hellyers) They will use Seniors Center for all tournaments as the house is going to be destroyed. May 27 Tournament coming up it will be a 1 day not a 2 day tournament. Changed on Website. Kamloops has 5 members. Marcel Decapp had a heart attack. Nicola Valley ... Winfield celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Summerland Celebrating their 50th. Golden Russ Elliot doesn't want to run it anymore. 8. Committee Reports: a) Supplies and Jackets - Marcel Pinette: Dorothy paid for jackets (see financial report b) Canadian Tournament 2006: Deadline is June 20 c) World Tournament 2006: Only 500 registered so far. d) Newsletter - Sam Tomasevic: Work in progress e) BC International - Sam Tomasevic: 101 pitchers plus 8 juniors for a total of 109 pitchers entered. Cheryl Degraaf made an announcement regarding the new Husky/Mohawk community rebate cards program and reminded people about donating their air miles and Canadian tire money. Cheryl received $4.85 in Canadian money. The 50/50 brought in $249 and the raffle made $346 for a grand total of $595 9. Next Meeting: AGM in Quesnel, BC September long weekend. 10.
