EXECUTIVE MEETING

VICTORIA, B.C.

MAY 19, 2000

The meeting was called to order by the President at 1:10P.M. Present: Sam Tomasevic (President), Annie Rayner (Secretary), Dick Hopkins (Treasurer), Vince Herkel (Vice-President), Dorothy Butts (Past President), Fred Ormiston (Island/Powell River Rep), Bill Roos (Island/Powell River Assistant Rep), Marcel Pinette (Lower Mainland Rep) and Ernie Connolly (Interior/Kootneys Rep).

READING OF MINUTES

The minutes of the last Executive Meeting were read by the Secretary Annie Rayner. Motion: Fred Ormiston, Seconded Vince Herkel "That the minutes be adopted as read". Vote taken, carried.

CORRESPONDENCE

Sam received a letter from Tal Severson's daughter. She had wrote to the B.C. Sports Hall Of Fame to get her dad inducted. Their reply was that horseshoes is not recognized as a sport.

Fred is going to do some checking with others (USA, Saskatchewan, etc) and will then write a letter to the B.C. Sports Hall Of Fame.

INTERM FINANCIAL REPORT

Was given by the Treasurer Dick Hopkins. Most insurance money is in except for North Peace and Williams Lake. The insurance policies have been re-newed.

Copies given out to the executive.

There is still $1,938.00 in the lottery fund grant to be used for trophies, crests and newsletter.

Motion: Dorothy Butts, Seconded Vince Herkel "That the report be adopted as read", vote taken, carried.

ZONE REP REPORTS

ISLAND/POWELL RIVER - FRED ORMISTON. Fred would like the trophies for the B.C. Championships and B.C. International to stay in one place (i.e. Central Park) and would like this discussed at the next executive meeting

NORTH - LOUIS LEVESQUE. Louis was not able to attend this meeting.

LOWER MAINLAND - MARCEL PINETTE. Marcel stated that Cloverdale and Burnaby had good tournaments.

Abbotsford has four members with heart problems.

Things are coming along nicely for the B.C. Championships.

INTERIOR/KOOTNEYS - ERNIE CONNOLLY. Ernie reported that both the Penticton Tournaments and the Salmon Arm Tournament were successful. Freda Moore did a good job as tournament director for Salmon Arm

Barriere has 10 members and is coming back as a club. Plans are to hold a tournament in 2001.

There is a Bunkhouse Horseshoe Club in Kelowna that is taking some of the Winfield members.

Merritt is working on a club which would be called the Lower Nicola Valley Horseshoe Club. There is an existing clubhouse and 12 courts.

There may be a club in Cache Creek in the future.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

HALL OF FAME - FRED ORMISTON - All ballots are to be in by June 30th for Promotor/Builder.

RAFFLE UPDATE - BILL ROOS - Bill stated that he has the license.

Sam stated that some of the tickets would be distributed at the tournament this weekend.

AIR MILES REPORT - MARCEL PINETTE - Dorthy Butts gave new cards to Marcel to give out.

SUPPLIES REPORT - VINCE HERKEL - Have had trouble getting M&M Horseshoes, however there are 24 sets on the way now. Lots of supplies on hand

The computer that the President had, will go to the Secretary

Motion Vince Herkel, seconded by Fred Ormiston "That the Secretaries computer be offered for sale for $150.00 ", vote taken, passed.

GAMING - DOROTHY BUTTS - Gave a report on some findings re: the new lottery laws, and whom she had talked to, etc. Victoria and Winfield have both lost their Bingo/Casino funding.

A committee of Dorothy, Fred and Vince will look into different ways to receive funding, thru lotteries.

Vince stated that another Sports facility was built with 2000 funds.

The Ladysmith Horseshoe Club has been helped with funding by the Eagles Club.

It was noted that Senior Lotteries will give grants for wheelchair/handicap improvements.

PRESIDENT REPORT - SAM TOMASEVIC - website is doing well

News for the newsletter is coming in slowly

Motion Bill Roos seconded by Fred Ormiston "That the BCHA give a one-time fee of $150.00 to John Hasell, to change the Horseshoe Program to Windows95, providing that every BC Club that needs one, gets one", vote taken, carried.

Sam showed a new logo design for the BCHA. Motion Fred Ormiston, seconded by Dorothy Butts "That we adpot this design as a new pin, crest, logo", carried. Sam had one quote for pins at $1.85 plus tax. Vince will check out other prices.

A clipping from the Port Alberni newspaper was passed around. It contained a write-up and pictures of when the recovered bank funds were presented to the Port Alberni Horseshoe Club by President of BCHA, Sam Tomasevic. Also attending were Dorothy Butts, Fred Ormiston and Vince Herkel.

TRAVEL FUND

Letters were received from Walter Kinakin - Mens A and Doris Wilton - Ladies A Champions, stating that they will be going to the Canadian Championships in Manitou Beach, Sk. and would like funding. Motion Fred Ormiston, seconded by Marcel Pinette "That $500.00 each be given to the above two applicants". Carried.

It was noted that the Junior Girl A - Erin Greenside, had applied, but had to cancel.

The Secretary to give notice that if applicants do not go to the Canadian Tournament, then the money is to be returned to BCHA.

CONSTITUTION/BY-LAWS UPDATE - DOROTHY BUTTS

Every club was sent the proposed changes. Dorothy had replies from the Victoria Club, Bill Whitnack of Vernon and Sam Tomasevic.

The executive went thru the whole constitution - discussed and ratified the changes. This document will now be presented to the membership at the Annual General Meeting on Sept. 1, 2000, for ratification.

OLD/NEW BUSINESS

Affiliation Certificates - Dorothy Butts - had narrowed the border designs down to two, and a choice was made. The certificates will be ready to hand out at the AGM.

Motion Fred Ormiston, seconded by Vince Herkel "That the BCHA give a donation of $100.00 for the Canadian - Program Book, with an ad saying "Good - Luck", carried.

The next executive meeting will be the AGM, on Sept. 1, 2000, 7PM. Place to be announced.

Motion by Vince Herkel, Seconded by Ernie Connolly to adjourn came at 5:53P.M., vote taken, all in favour.
